At 27, Brenda Omoit has spent over five years shaping young minds as a Grade 2 and 3 teacher at SOH. Her journey is deeply personal. Orphaned as a baby, Brenda never knew her mother, who passed away when she was just a few months old. With the help of generous well‑wishers, she made it through college and carried with her a heartfelt desire: to serve in a place like SOH, where she could walk alongside children whose stories mirror her own. Brenda didn’t just want to teach—she wanted to understand, to relate, and to be the kind of adult she once needed. Today, she is known for her passion, adaptability, and warm, welcoming spirit. In the photo above Brenda laughs with students from Grade 2 and 3 during holiday break.
Wishing a Happy and Hopeful Spring to you and yours
from the whole Star of Hope Family,
Leonard, Gladwell, the teachers and staff in Kenya, the USA Board
(Vicki, Dana, Marsha and Bill), and most of all, the children.
May 2026 Newsletter
To our beloved friends and partners!
Warm greetings for the spring! Despite our recent unexpected flooding, It’s our joy to report that the Star of Hope program continues to grow and meet our primary objectives due to your consistent support! We have come a long way and for the year accomplished so much to be proud off as a program in partnership with you! Our kids are not only in a good learning environment but they are also receiving timely medical attention through our clinic, which you support! This has helped us manage malaria, a top killer in our region, control Typhoid and other bacterial pestilences that are a common occurrence within our community, too. We are so grateful that we continue to find stability through the water that you helped secure from a deep borehole sunk in our facility. Your loving support and giving is writing a beautiful story in our community, deep in the heart of Africa!
Sincerely,
Leonard Muyelele

When It Rains…It Pours
Star of Hope sits in a rural community long challenged by drought and constant water shortages, but the rainy season brings its own trials. This past week, several days of heavy downpour swept through the area. Even with Leonard’s careful preparation and drainage trenches, the campus still took in 1–2 feet of water, flooding the campus grounds, several classroom blocks, and the office.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, and most of the vulnerable equipment was spared. Damages are estimated at about $3,000, but thanks to you, we had a small emergency reserve ready to respond. Though the flooding was significant, the Star of Hope community weathered the storm together — resilient as ever.
Six‑year‑old Collins Baraka joined Star of Hope in January 2026, marking a new beginning after a very difficult start to life. With a father who struggles with mental challenges and cannot provide stable care, Collins spent his early years roaming from place to place, begging for food and wearing torn clothes. A caring neighbor approached Gladwell about his situation and reached out for help.
Since arriving at Star of Hope, Collins’ life has transformed. He now has clean clothes, regular meals, friends to play with, and the chance to learn. Most of all, he’s found a safe, loving place where he can finally smile and simply be a child.
Our on-campus medical health clinic is run by Clinician Norman Ngutuku, who does an excellent job caring for the students and staff of both Star of Hope and Stella Blue High School, as well as the local villagers.
